RWB Richard A. Lowrey was born on May 26, 1961 in Fort Worth, Texas and spent the first twenty years of his life there. After completing his first two years of college working toward a Mechanical Engineering degree, he and his family moved to the Joplin area. He met and married the love of his life, Jennifer, in 1983 in Joplin and together they raised three amazing children, Michael, Amanda, and Mitchell. Brother Richard began working at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin in 1984 and was employed there for 24-1/2 years, finishing his time there as a Facilities Coordinator, working with Engineers, Architects, Administrators, and Contractors. While employed there he returned to academia and completed his first college degree, an AS/CADD at Missouri Southern State University in 1990. Immediately following his college degree, he petitioned Fellowship Lodge #345 and was raised in August of the same year. He was appointed to the Officer’s line and served as Worshipful Master of Fellowship Lodge, completing his term in 1997. While serving in the Officer’s line, he joined the Scottish Rite, Valley of Joplin, as well as Joplin Chapter #91, Jasper Council #30, and Ascension Commandry #39 of the York Rite Bodies in Joplin. In 2000, he received the Knight York Cross of Honor. He is a member of the Allied Masonic Degrees, Memorial Council #420 and he is a Past Sovereign of St. Andrew Conclave of the Red Cross of Constantine. Brother Richard was appointed the District Deputy Grand Master of District 45 and he served in that capacity until 2003. In the Scottish Rite, he was invested a Knight Commander of the Court of Honor in 2003 and was coroneted an Inspector General Honorary 33° in 2009. Once again going back to college, Brother Richard achieved his second college degree, a BS in CIS/IT in May 2007 and was inducted into Alpha Chi, the National College Honor Society. Later that year, he was asked to fill the Secretary’s Office for Fellowship Lodge #345, and still holds that position. In October of 2008, he was recruited to be the Executive Secretary for the Valley of Joplin Scottish Rite and currently serves in that capacity today. In May of 2011, Brother Richard said “yes” to opening up the Scottish Rite Kitchen after the Joplin tornado and, together with over one hundred volunteers, helped provide food, drink, and supplies to countless Emergency Services Personnel and tornado victims during their search, rescue, and recovery operations. It was later the same year at the Annual Grand Lodge Communication in 2011 that Brother Richard was chosen as Secretary of the Year by the Grand Lodge staff. In October of 2013, he helped to establish the Joplin Chapter Order of Demolay and was a charter adult Advisor. He continues supporting the Chapter in that capacity today. And in all things Masonic, he will continue to work toward building, strengthening, and growing our gentle Craft.
